NOTICE - Birck Nanotechnology Center - All Lab & Cleanroom Operations are Down

All Users, We have had a major failure of one of the buildings main power feeds to the center that controls all of our general lab and cleanroom HVAC system. The general lab and cleanroom space temperatures and humidity is completely out of control with the temperatures heating up to 5° to 10° F over set point. Please shut off all research equipment that is sensitive to high temperatures. All toxic gases will be shut down as well. This is the first time we have experience anything like this so it is unsure when the power will be restored. Until further notice all Lab and cleanroom research will be shut down. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, toxic gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, February 5 through 4 p.m. Friday, February 8. All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until all repairs to the critical power systems are completed and all systems are returned to normal. Only authorized personnel will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period. In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this critical repair. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 7 a.m. Tuesday, February 5 through 4 p.m. Friday, February 8. However, work that involves taking standard electrical measurements may be carried out in the LABS provided that fluctuating air temperature and humidity do not affect the readings. No chemical work will be allowed during this period. It is anticipated that the building repairs will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, February 8. Mark Voorhis Building Manager Birck Nanotechnology Center Birck Evaporation & Sputtering Researchers Starting next week, the week of February 4th, our evaporation engineer Kenny Schwartz is going out on extended medical leave. During the time when Kenny is out please direct all evaporation and sputtering inquires to Dave Lubelski (lubelski(a)purdue.edu) as Dave is the lead engineer for all sputtering and evaporation equipment and process questions, and he will cover the whole area until Kenny returns to work.
