[Bmeroundtable-list] Weldon School Leadership
Dear Weldon School Faculty, Staff, and Students, I'm happy to report that Dr. Nan Kong has accepted the offer to serve as Deputy Head of the Weldon School through June 30, 2023. When a contract with IU is signed, as we fully expect, then beginning July 1, 2023, I will devote full time to my duties as Senior Vice Provost for Purdue in Indianapolis and Dr. Kong will continue as Interim Head. I am thrilled that he accepted this role to serve the Weldon School and to ensure consistency and continuity of operations as I focus on Purdue in Indianapolis. All other structures for the School remain in place including the Associate Head roles, committee assignments, etc. Dr. Kong has over 15 years of experience at Purdue University and he has held several leadership and administrative roles both within and outside of the Weldon School. What does this mean for you and what does it mean to serve as the Deputy Head? First, starting next week, I will be working closely with Dr. Kong for a period of operational training - to learn the roles and responsibilities of the position including personnel, development, marketing and communications, faculty meetings, business resource management, and working with the Associate Heads and committee leads to accelerate momentum in research, learning, and entrepreneurship. Once Dr. Kong is up to speed on the workings of the school (and no later than late-February), he will assume the responsibilities for decision making, review, and implementation of the processes that are already in motion. I will be available at his discretion through June 30th. At Nan's request, I will work with him for faculty merit reviews and I will conduct the Spring BME Primary Committee meetings. To help with the transition, Lee Hua Chiang will begin to work with Nan Kong and start the process of shifting my routine and specified meetings to Dr. Kong during this transition. I look forward to Dr. Kong's leadership in this important phase of the Weldon School and I'm grateful for his willingness to serve in this critical capacity. Boiler Up! David M.
