[cid:image001.png@01D7EB74.69AF0350] Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering Prospective Faculty Seminar Thursday, December 9, 2021 9:30-10:20am MJIS 2001 Trustworthy and Distributed Data Analytics for AI-Driven Healthcare [cid:image002.jpg@01D7EB74.69AF0350] Yanmin Gong, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering University of Texas at San Antonio Abstract: Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) have led to disruptive innovations in genomics, drug discovery, radiology, and other fields. AI technologies cold build accurate and robust statistical models from medical data. However, medical data are usually fragmented and private, and thus difficult to be fully exploited by AI. Without access to data with sufficient amount and diversity, it would be challenging to develop effective models that are generalizable to large populations, which prevents AI from making the transition to clinical practice. In this talk, I will cover trustworthy and distributed data analytics for healthcare applications. After looking at potential applications of federated learning in healthcare, I will present several federated learning methods with differential privacy guarantee. I will discuss challenges of ensuring differential privacy in this setting and introduce techniques for achieving strong privacy protection while maintaining high model accuracy simultaneously in practice. I will end with some other projects on data security and privacy in my group. Bio: Yanmin Gong received her M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 2012, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Florida, USA, in 2016. She is currently an assistant professor in electrical and computer engineering at UT San Antonio. Her research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and cybersecurity, with applications to healthcare and networked systems. She is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, the NSF CRII Award, Rising Star in Networking and Communications Award by IEEE ComSoc N2Women, TPC Member Award of IEEE INFOCOM, and Best Paper Award at IEEE GLOBECOM. She is currently an Editor of the IEEE Wireless Communications and IEEE Senior Member.
