Requesting your assistance: Mental Health among PhD Students in STEM Greetings! We are a group of researchers at the University of Massachusetts Boston interested in understanding the status of mental health among doctoral students in STEM. Mental health and wellbeing are key factors influencing doctoral student success. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing violence against Black, Asian, Indigenous, and Latinx communities have increased and compounded student stress. So, we are currently seeking participants for a 35-minute research study designed to understand the influential factors that affect mental health among doctoral students in STEM. Participants who meet the following criteria are invited to take part in this research: ● Current doctoral student ● Enrolled in a STEM discipline ● 18 years or older We encourage students who hold minoritized identities to participate in this study. If you are interested in participating in this 35-minute survey, please click the link below. Link - https://umassboston.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8eTksU9ihgNX7Ya This study has been approved by the University of Massachusetts Boston Institutional Review Board (protocol #2021037). If you have any questions about the research study, please feel free to email us at statusofmentalhealthinSTEM@gmail.com<mailto:statusofmentalhealthinSTEM@gmail.com>. Spring 2022 ESE-IGP Symposium See Attached This year’s annual Ecological Sciences and Engineering Interdisciplinary Graduate Program symposium kicks off tomorrow and registration is still open - please share with your graduate students and faculty! Symposium keynote and panels are set to take place on April 6, 7, and 8th. Please see the attached flyer for additional details, and register by scanning the QR code. You can also visit our website<https://www.purdue.edu/gradschool/ese/symposium/2022/agenda.php> to register. We hope you are able to join us (virtually) and sincerely appreciate your support. April Social Justice Seminar Series Social Justice and Nurses Caring for Patients During COVID-19 Conversations surrounding the crisis in nursing amid the COVID-19 pandemic situate the nurse as a social actor who needs to build and maintain resiliency. I temper this expectation as unjust and unrealistic given the avoidable nurse specific traumas they are continuously exposed to. A broader context that begins to entertain the concept of social justice for nurses as opposed to social justice by nurses will be described. The nurse, as bound physically and psychologically by space and time, as well as organizational culpability will be discussed.
