Some common questions we have received:

Q: When and where do I pick up my order(s)?
A: Due to funding limitations, we are bulk-ordering all merchandise
from our contracted third-party vendor after the store page closes on March 10th. Then, they will likely arrive a week later and those who ordered will receive an email from the Biomedical Engineering Society regarding pick-up times and locations. (Please
do not go to MJIS 1021 to ask about orders.)

Q: Do I need to be a student with a Purdue email to order?
A: No, anyone can order, including those without a Purdue
email! However, the orders will still be pick-up only, as we do not ship!

Q: What is the logo of?
A: The embroidered logo is of the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering
with the Purdue Motion P logo. The logo is not of the Biomedical Engineering Society. All official Purdue logos and trademarks have been prior approved by the Purdue Marketing team and the Weldon department.

Boilers Work Internship Program - 1 Month Left!
There is only
1 month left to submit for the Boilers Work Internship Program! Please share this information with graduate students and faculty in your area!
The Boilers Work internship program is open and accepting submissions for the summer of 2023! This internship program provides ten
graduate students per year with a stipend to pursue an unpaid summer internship. This year, the stipend award has increased to $7,500! This program is intended to help students garner real-world work experience, refine soft skills, and establish career connections
before graduation.
The deadline to submit is April 3rd by 11:59 p.m. Awards will be announced on April 14th.

First-Year Engineering (FYE) Graduate Teaching Assistantship—Application Open
FYE is now taking applications for Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) to be hired for Fall 2023. Our GTAs assist an instructor/s and
the First-Year Instructional Support Team with the successful execution of our First-Year Engineering courses (ENGR 13000/13100/13200/13300). Duties range from maintaining course management software, overseeing evening help sessions, grading, mentoring Undergraduate
TAs, and other duties as assigned.

Fall 2023 TA Position in Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for Fall 2023 teaching assistant positions from graduate students in fields closely
related to chemistry. Historically, students from the College of Pharmacy, the Department of Biochemistry, the College of Education, and certain chemistry-related fields in Engineering (ABE, BME, CHE, EEE, and NE) have been effective external TAs in CHM,
but we will consider all applicants who have the appropriate chemistry knowledge, particularly students who use a significant amount of fundamental chemistry in their graduate research. Usually, one year of undergraduate chemistry classwork is
insufficient experience for a TA position.

Details:
TA positions in Chemistry are typically graduate staff appointments and include a tuition remission and a stipend of $27,675 (annual
rate for 2022-23 academic year, paid biweekly for the period of the appointment). Most appointments are 50% (i.e., 20 hrs. per week), but a 25% appointment may be possible if the student has an additional 25% graduate staff appointment in their own department
or school. International students must have evidence of English proficiency (see requirements of the Oral English Proficiency Program, OEPP, for all Teaching Assistants at Purdue) prior to the start of the appointment.
Please note that we give preference to students within the Department of Chemistry to fill all available positions first. This means
that we often do not know how many external Teaching Assistants we will need to hire until very shortly before the semester starts. We will begin reviewing applications for Fall 2023 in April 2023 with some interviews occurring by May 15, 2023. We often
do not know our overall hiring need until very shortly before the semester starts, so hiring may not take place until just before the semester begins, i.e., the week of Aug. 14.
We typically do not hire external Teaching Assistants for the summer term.
2023 BMEGSA Research Symposium
2023 BME Graduate Research Symposium
The 2023 BME Graduate Research Symposium will take place on May 11th, 2023 in the Martin Jischke Hall of Biomedical Engineering at
Purdue University's West Lafayette Campus. The event, hosted by the BMEGSA, will have a keynote speaker, an industry career panel, free food, gift bags, prizes, and podium and poster presentations by BME graduate students!

Hiring SURF23 GAs | Summer semester 2023

for Summer 2023 and a possibility to renew with a competitive stipend, fee remission, and health insurance.
Position Description
SURF graduate mentors/ assistants (GAs) are an integral part of
the Engineering Undergraduate Research Office (EURO), and they work together to provide administrative support to the SURF program. Each SURF GA contributes to the successful implementation of the entire program by taking the lead on specific aspects of the
program and assisting the other GAs in their leadership roles. GA also works closely with the student participants by providing technical writing support and tracking their program progress. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Mentoring and teaching experience

Responsibilities
Student Support: Each GA is assigned and responsible for 20-25 of
the SURF participants (~200)

Provide technical and general support to aid students’ successful completion of the program

Build professional relationships with the students, and track their progress and attendance

Review students’ technical writing (e.g., literature review, abstract, and technical paper)
·
Coach students on how to prepare for a symposium presentation
·
Present and facilitate workshops and meet with the assigned student groups
Administrative Support:
·
Collaborate and coordinate with the SURF leadership team to implement orientation, lab tours, professional development seminars, symposium session planning, and awards reception
·
Organize social events
·
Prepare an end-of-program report documenting participation metrics, the success of individual events, best practices, and recommendations for 2024
·
Other duties as assigned by the EURO leadership to successfully implement the program
