Graduate students submit their application packet directly to OGSPS, but will include a letter of nomination from the department head. This application also requires a 10 minute teaching video. These videos do not need to be professional. With the end of the semester looming, these videos will need to be taken soon.

Deadline for your students to submit their completed application is January 9, 2025.

Please help the graduate students of your Colleges/Schools earn fame and (a small) fortune through the 2025 Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) Excellence in Teaching Award!  Purdue University is eligible to nominate one master’s-level and one doctoral-level student for each award that includes a citation and a $750 honorarium that will be presented at the MAGS annual meeting April 2-4, 2025…in Indianapolis!  To decide on our campus-wide nominees, students must submit materials to the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars (OGSPS) by Thursday, January 9, 2025; 5:00 p.m. for consideration.

Award Details

• The 2025 Excellence in Teaching Awards will be bestowed on “…graduate students who exemplify excellence in the teaching and learning mission of our universities…[to] recognize the importance of excellence in teaching and mentoring as a component of graduate education and the preparation of graduate students for future service as college and university faculty.”

• The Dean of the Graduate School/College (or designee) at each MAGS-affiliated university may select and submit the materials of one doctoral and one master’s-level graduate student for these awards.

Submission Details

Graduate students wishing to be considered for this award—at the doctoral-level OR at the master’s-level—must submit in a single PDF document that includes:

• a letter of nomination from the student’s department head
• the student’s current curriculum vitae
• the nominee’s teaching portfolio
• up to six (6) pages, double spaced, 1-inch margins, with a 12-point font
• an embedded link to a video (maximum of 10 minutes) showing the nominee teaching in an educational setting of a collegiate level course
