I am pleased to invite you to the inaugural Purdue Center for Musculoskeletal Engineering (PCME) Summit! This is a new event designed to highlight the new center, the depth and breadth of our research community, and to strengthen our growing partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and the Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health (ICMH).

 

While the final schedule and location are still being determined, I want to share our current vision for the day so you can plan to join us:

Transition to Industry: February 25-26, 2026
The Torrey Pines Training Consortium has developed this course for early career scientists who are considering transitioning to a career in industry.  Instructors and panelists with extensive industry experience will share their insights and provide guidance to help clarify the pathway to establishing a successful career in industry from academia.  Participants will gain an understanding of corporate culture and practice and of industry priorities and operational areas.  While this course is designed for postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and research staff may also find this training informative and may attend.

IFER Fellowship Applications NOW OPEN

IFER Fellowship Applications NOW OPEN

The International Foundation for Ethical Research (IFER) is now accepting pre-proposal applications for the 2027 Graduate Fellowship program.

 

Key Details:

·         Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM CST on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

·         Grants are $15,000 per year, renewable for up to three years based on student progress and funding availability.

·         Fellows are eligible for a $1,000 travel award to present their research at conferences.

 

Fellowship Overview: 

IFER Graduate Fellowships support projects that advance the development, validation, or implementation of human-relevant, non-animal methodologies in research, testing, or education. Funding is directed toward innovative scientific methods with the potential to replace animal models while improving scientific outcomes.

 

Special consideration will be given to proposals demonstrating a strong likelihood of replacing animal use in research.

 

Eligibility:

 

Applicants must be graduate students enrolled in a degree program with at least one year remaining until program completion at the time the fellowship begins. Students whose projects utilize human cell lines, stem cells, computational models, and other non-animal methods in place of animal models are encouraged to apply.

Since 1985, IFER has awarded more than $2 million in funding to researchers dedicated to advancing alternatives to the use of animals in science. These fellowships offer an opportunity to contribute to the growing field of human-relevant research, paving the way for scientific innovation and ethical progress.

3MT Competition: Your Research. Your Stage. Your Chance to Win $5k

The OGSPS Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is now open for submissions!

 

3MT is an international science communication competition that challenges participants to condense their years of research into a three-minute presentation. In addition, participants will learn to communicate scientific research to a non-specialist audience. Purdue graduate students are encouraged to submit their draft video and a single presentation slide to the competition at the following survey.

 

Prizes: Winner $5K, Runner-Up $3K, People’s Choice $2K

 

Why Participate?

The winner of the Purdue University competition will go on to participate in the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 3MT competition and will advance accordingly.

Submission Deadline: Friday, March 6 at 11:59 PM.

 

*Please note: Students and postdocs do not have to be nominated by a faculty member to participate!
