Research Study Survey from Ohio State: Advising Practices with Doctoral Students

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to request your assistance in distributing a survey for a research study focused on understanding graduate advising practices within engineering doctoral programs.

The study aims to gather insights into doctoral students' experiences with advising, which will help identify strengths and areas for improvement. The findings will be used to examine best practices in doctoral student training in engineering.

Student participation is entirely voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential.
The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Dr. George Siemens is a globally recognized leader and researcher at the intersection of human and artificial cognition in knowledge processes. He is the Co-founder, with Paul LeBlanc, Chief Scientist, and Architect of Matter & Space, an organization dedicated to addressing the systemic restructuring of AI on learning and wellness. As the Founding Director and Professor of the Center for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L) at the University of South Australia, he leads pioneering research on digital learning, artificial intelligence, and human-centered education.

Dr. Siemens is also the founding President of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR) and was instrumental in developing the first Master of Science in Learning Analytics at the University of Texas at Arlington, shaping a new field that revolutionizes the use of data in education. His groundbreaking work in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which he co-pioneered in 2008, has influenced digital education worldwide.
A highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Siemens has delivered keynote addresses in over 40 countries, shaping global discourse on the future of learning, technology, and organizations. His research and insights have been featured in The New York Times, major national and international newspapers, radio, and television, cementing his status as a leading voice in educational innovation.
Dr. Siemens has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on major research initiatives funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Office for Learning and Teaching Australia (OLT), Intel, Boeing, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. His innovative work has guided government agencies in Australia, the European Union, Canada, and the United States, as well as numerous international universities, in advancing digital learning strategies and leveraging AI-driven learning analytics to improve educational outcomes.
His contributions have been recognized with honorary doctorates from Universidad de San Martín de Porres and Fraser Valley University, as well as an Honorary Professorship at the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Siemens is also the President of the Global Research Alliance for AI in Learning and Education (GRAILE), an initiative at the forefront of AI’s role in shaping the future of knowledge and learning in higher education.
