2022 Chorafas Foundation
Award - Call for pre-proposals deadline 04/11/2022

Purdue
University will nominate one young PhD graduate student researcher for the 2022 Chorafas Foundation Award. The
$5,000 award, made available by the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation, is intended as a prize for advanced studies and/or research during or shortly after graduation. The Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation was founded in 1992 under the leadership of Prof.
Dimitris N. Chorafas. Each year, the Foundation awards prizes to more than 20 universities, with the goal of stimulating promising young researchers.
Applications are invited from eligible PhD students
enrolled in any College at Purdue.
Research
projects in the following areas are eligible for the Chorafas prize:

Life Sciences & Medicine
·
Physics
·
Chemistry (including nanotechnology)
·
Mathematics
·
Informatics/Computer Science
·
Engineering of Finance & Risk Management
Eligibility:
·
Applications are invited from PhD students enrolled
in any College at Purdue University.
·
Applicants may not be older than 32 years on May 31, 2022 (born after 5/31/1990).
·
Candidate students must have graduated or be expected to graduate between
May 31, 2021 and December 31, 2022. Candidates can only be nominated once.
Process:
·
Selection of a Purdue nominee will be a two-phase process. Students are invited to submit pre-proposals for the Chorafas Foundation Award by
Monday, April 11, 2022.
·
A maximum of 5 finalists will be selected to submit a full nomination package. The deadline for submitting full nomination packets is
Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
·
The cover page and all requirements and criteria for pre-proposals and final proposals are provided in the attachment.
All pre-proposals,
regardless of students home College/Department, should be sent to the attention of Heather Brinkman, College of Engineering,
electronically as one PDF File emailed to hbrinkma@purdue.edu

Salk Fellow Position
at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies
The Salk Fellows Program
is a path for exceptionally talented early-stage career scientists to embark on fully independent research programs as an alternative to traditional postdoctoral studies. We seek bold leaders who are passionate in exploring new frontiers in science and pursuing
innovative solutions to fundamental questions in biology. Candidates or recent PhD or MD graduates, ideally no more than one year from graduation with two at the most, with demonstrated excellence in research and leadership ability are appointed as Principal
Investigators for an initial term of three years with the possibility for an extension of one to two additional years for a maximum of five years. Salk Fellow appointees are eligible for consideration for promotion to Assistant Professor.
Salk fellows are interdisciplinary
scientists who integrate diverse approaches (e.g. computer science, mathematics, imaging, computational biology, physics, machine learning, molecular modeling, synthetic biology or engineering) to address fundamental biological questions. Areas of interest
include, but are not limited to, all aspects of health and disease (e.g. human, plant and global health/disease), adaptation and evolution, host-pathogen interactions, neurobiology, physiology, translational medicine and genomics, biophysics and bioengineering. Prospective
Fellows’ proposed research should not be simply an extension of their graduate work but should pursue bold and uncharted frontiers. The work should be exciting, combining originality and risk, two factors that often lower the chances of obtaining support through
traditional channels but can lead to truly groundbreaking discoveries.
Candidates must complete
an application online through Interfolio and include a current curriculum vitae, research statement, and three recommendation letters from scientists who are distinguished leaders in their fields, including one from their research advisor. Selected referees
should be able to comment in depth on candidates’ accomplishments and potential and describe the impact of their proposed research programs on their fields. Research advisors should explain how candidates’ research is distinct from previous work conducted
in their labs. Referees should also address candidates’ readiness to start and operate an independent lab and their potential to benefit from an accelerated path to an independent research career.

CCIL postdoctoral fellowship--deadline

The Cancer Center at Illinois Postdoctoral Fellowship
Cancer Science and Engineering track focuses on training postdocs in bridging basic cancer sciences and engineering, thereby developing careers at the intersection of the CCIL's unique scientific themes. Fellows will participate in workshops such as cancer
biology for engineers, -omics data analysis, and development and validation of preclinical models.
The CCIL Postdoctoral Fellowship is a full-time position
that offers a separate, annual research budget of $25,000. Fellows may be appointed annually for up to three years. Applications are due May 1, 2022.
Postdoc Fellowship Opportunity
with UC Berkeley's IGI & the Tory Burch Foundation Program
Please
share this information with your graduate students and postdocs about an exciting new postdoc program at UC Berkeley's Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) in partnership with the Tory Burch Foundation. This is a great opportunity for scientists looking to
develop their entrepreneurial skills and promote gender equity in the biotech industry.
The Tory Burch Fellowship at the IGI aligns with the
institute's mission of translating genome-editing and biotechnology tools into affordable and accessible solutions in human health, climate, and agriculture. The program seeks to support scientists whose work involves the development of solutions to global
problems, and who aim to benefit the public by developing their ideas for eventual commercial translation. The one-year program will provide one selected fellow the opportunity to participate in Tory Burch Foundation programs, while receiving up to $150,000
in salary and benefits, mentoring and entrepreneurial training, as well as space at the IGI to develop their ideas.

The Office of Product Evaluation
and Quality (OPEQ) is recruiting for the Total Product Life Cycle (TPLC) Fellowship Program. This is a two (2) year rotation program that will provide opportunities to learn about various medical devices and the regulatory review process.

and engineering students with a 3.0 GPA or higher, who will graduate by May 2022 or those who have graduated in the past 2 years.
Upon completion of the program, participants may be placed within OPEQ to conduct TPLC reviews of medical devices.
