From June, 10th – June, 16th 2023,
Merck
KGaA,
Darmstadt, Germany will be hosting the Innovation Cup Summer Camp (http://innovationcup.merckgroup.com,
http://innovationcup.emdgroup.com).
The Innovation Cup is an initiative for post-graduate students in natural sciences, computer sciences, and business administration to attend a training program near Frankfurt, Germany. All travel, food and accommodation expenses are paid by us.
The Innovation Cup is designed to support the professional development
of post-graduate students interested in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. Participants learn how R&D in the industry works by lectures from Merck managers and scientists. The students will also advance an idea to a full project plan with their teams.
The event brings together a promising new generation of talent with senior managers and researchers and accomplished retirees in a meeting of the generations. It also provides a unique chance to network with the brightest students from all around the world.
Teams will work on innovative projects in the areas of: Oncology,
Autoimmunity, Medicinal Chemistry, Protein Engineering, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Neuromorphic Computing and Smart Manufacturing. At the first day of the summer camp a conference with alumni from previous editions will be organized.
Postdocs and post-graduate students on their way towards a PhD in
biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, biotechnology, computer sciences, data sciences, biochemistry, pharmacy, engineering or related fields are invited to apply. In addition, advanced MBA students or recent MBA graduates with an interest in the pharmaceutical
and chemical business and a background in natural sciences or computer and data are also eligible.
The participating teams have the chance to win the Innovation Cup
award endowed with EUR 20,000 for the most convincing project plan, plus EUR 5,000 and EUR 3,000 for the runner-ups.

Entering Mentoring Facilitator
Training
Recruitment is now open for Entering
Mentoring Facilitator training hosted by the Center
for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison for April, May and July 2023 in person. Participants who wish to attend CIMER hosted facilitator trainings will be directed to our payment site where they can register (and pay) for themselves or indicate an administrator
will pay on their behalf. Once a spot is confirmed, participants will receive a confirmation email from the payment site with a receipt and a link to the google form which takes 10-15 minutes to complete.
Workshop Overview:
Facilitating Entering Mentoring is
a two-day “train-the-trainer” workshop designed to increase the capacity for research mentor trainings offered at colleges and universities, research institutes, and governmental organizations. During this workshop, participants are introduced to Entering
Mentoring, a mentor training curriculum series that addresses
the following themes: aligning expectations, addressing equity and inclusion, articulating your mentoring philosophy and plan, assessing understanding, cultivating ethical behavior, enhancing work-life integration, fostering independence, maintaining effective
communication, promoting mentee research self-efficacy, and promoting professional development. Workshop participants become familiar with the curricula, practice facilitating training components, and develop a plan for implementing the training at their institution
or organization. The National Academies report The
Science of Effective Mentorship in STEMM recommends Entering
Mentoring as one form of mentorship education that can help improve mentoring relationships.
Participants are...
1.
Faculty, instructors, staff, or administrators.
2.
Working with mentors whose trainees are undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs, or junior faculty. Our workshop materials are currently optimized for use across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine
fields.
3.
Committed to implementing research mentor training workshops at their institution or organization within the next year.
4.
Teams of two are encouraged but not required. No more than three from the same institution will be accepted. If you have a group of 3 or more, you may decide to sign up for Facilitator Training for Institutional Teams ($2175 per
registrant) in August 2023 (recruitment in spring 2023).
Registration Details:

Registration is $1895 and includes workshop materials plus meals and snacks on both days. This workshop is limited to 32 participants. The workshops will begin at 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM each day. Each individual needs to complete the
google form (step 2 once payment has been made).

The deadline to register is six weeks prior to the date of the workshop or until filled, and is on a first-come, first-served basis. If the workshop is full, you can complete the form to add yourself to the waitlist and
will be contacted if a spot becomes available up to the registration deadline. You may also visit the Entering
Mentoring Facilitator Training Website for additional dates.
To register for your reserved spot, complete the steps below (please sign up for one of the following workshops). Once you
have completed payment, you will receive confirmation from the payment site with a link to a google form for participant information (previously step 1). Your spot is confirmed once the payment has been made.

for our annual Spring Reception
in celebration of interdisciplinary graduate student research on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Purdue Memorial Union North and South Ballrooms.
Please encourage your students to submit presentations for the reception and apply for the Most Outstanding Interdisciplinary Project
Award (MOIPA—winner receives $1000).
4-5 judges are needed to help with judging the posters (day of) and MOIPA applications. Please send those names to Alexis Smith at

as you get faculty to agree to judge. Your help in this area is greatly appreciated.
