I wanted to share some exciting news with you as we have been collaborating with ENGL to offer some exciting new courses to our students. Previously, these courses have only been taught on line and to smaller schools in the Warsaw area
but are now being offered to us. They are going to offer one this fall but plan to offer the other courses in the future. Please check them out and register if you think they would be a benefit to you. They will need at least 5 students enrolled for the
course to run.

Do you mind sharing with me how students register for these courses. I looked in the schedule of classes and ran a cognos report and could only find one of the classes. Currently, do most of these students register in a different platform
other than the schedule of classes in MyPurdue? Attached is the only course I could find through what I would call our “normal channels”.

Yes, if we can enroll at least a handful of students, we’ll run them. Since the courses are online and asynchronous, we can be flexible. What would work for you folks?

It has been a couple of years, but I wanted to follow-up on these courses (603/604/605) and see if they are currently offered, and if they might be available to on-campus students to enroll or intended only for students in the certificate
program. We are updating requirements for our PhD students and continue to identify writing as an important skill for our graduate students and are looking into available course possibilities.

Good. The certificate is designed to be stacked with other programs. Right now, it looks like Grace College, which has a relationship with Purdue, will be doing that. Also, a few programs in HHS have been looking
at the option.
Personally, I think the three courses I’ve been developing first would be incredibly useful to your students. The Writing Proposals and Grants goes over very well, whether they are thinking of academia or industry,
and the Editing and Publishing course is helpful toward teaching them skills at improving their writing and the writing of others.
The Medical and Healthcare Writing course, meanwhile, should help them with your regulatory courses. It’s not specifically aimed at regulatory documents, but they would learn quite a few skills that would be applicable
to that kind of writing.
Friday looks more open than Thursday. I currently have a meeting scheduled from 12:30-1:30. Can you mean somewhere within 10:00-12:30 or 1:30-3:30?

Hi Rick,
It would be great to talk more about this. I think many of our students (undergrad and grad) would benefit by having stronger writing skills. We have a series of courses that center around the regulation of medical devices and writing
is a critical component of that process, but not something we really focus on at the moment. These courses will soon be part of a certificate program (to be available in-person or online), also form a core piece of our professional masters program, and planning
to expand to an online MS option as well.
We have also thought about the possibility of ‘stacking’ relevant certificate programs across different departments/schools/colleges to develop potential interdisciplinary Masters-level opportunities. Some of these combinations may be
of interest to only a very small number of students, but could be interesting to consider options.
What is your general availability over the next couple/few weeks? Wednesday and Thursday morning are fairly open for me this week and next, as well as next week all day Monday. Also other available times scattered throughout the week.

Thanks for reaching out. This is an online certificate program that I have been building, and it will launch in January. Two of the classes are finished (604 and 605) and, I’m finishing 603 soon.
603 Medical and Healthcare Writing
604 Writing Proposals and Grants
605 Editing and Publishing
All three courses center on Medical and Healthcare Writing. If the certificate program starts gaining enrollments, I’ll be expanding to 601 and 602. And, if that works. We have a Professional Masters in Medical,
Scientific, Technical, and Healthcare Writing in mind.
I can give you access to the courses through Brightspace if you want to see how they work. They are online asychnronous classes that each run 8 weeks.
What are your interests? I teach in-person versions of these classes at the 400-level here on campus, and STEM graduate students often take them. I was receiving quite a bit of interest from around the country
from people who could not be here to take the classes in person. So, we began building the online program.
Let’s talk if you’re interested. I’m just building this thing because there’s a demand for it. I can adjust the content to fit the interests of potential students.
