Program for Starting a Company
A
cohort-based program for founders looking to start a company in the next 3 -9 months. We teach founders processes to clarify the problem they’re solving and the value they are delivering – from the customer’s perspective. Working within a cohort to define
problem-market fit, each founder or team will develop elements of their business model in each workshop and present to the cohort for feedback and pressure testing of both their ideas and presentation skills – culminating in a final presentation for a panel
of industry professionals. Ignite is the first step in derisking your startup.

-AHEAD Research Fellowship Application
Preparation Workshop May 3, 2022
The
NIH-funded AIM-AHEAD [Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity] Research Fellows Program provides early career researchers (graduate students, postdocs, junior faculty, and others) the opportunity
to receive funding to help support research on novel and innovative data science and data-focused research problems. The fellows will work in collaboration with the AIM-AHEAD Coordinating Center to actively participate in biomedical research that involves
the use of AI/ML methodologies on electronic health record (EHR) data to address health disparities and inequities, including bias in AI/ML algorithms.
The application-preparation workshop will be held virtually May 3rd 2-4 PM EST, and the deadline for submitting an application is May 22, 2022. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or non-citizen nationals. Complete

This
is for a Design Release Engineer (aka Project Engineer). As a Project Engineer, you are essentially the chief engineer for your own component. This is an excellent foundational role that lets people learn more about how the business works and how to develop
a product. There is tons of collaboration with design, quality, validation, suppliers, and program teams. Based on the job description, I’m assuming they might also be looking at filling some roles on other restraints teams – such as Airbags, or Seatbelts,
etc. I think this would be a great fit for a Purdue BME that is interested in learning about product development, vehicle safety/restraints, and developing more project management skills.

Postdoc
Preview is a three-day competitive program that provides selected applicants the opportunity to visit VAI to learn about our postdoc training opportunities, meet one-on-one with our internationally recognized faculty and explore our extensive scientific
resources.

VAI will provide transportation, lodging and meals for selected applicants. We also are pleased to offer family care grants for those caring for children or other family members.
•
Eligibility: Applicants must be current graduate students at U.S. institutions who anticipate beginning a postdoc by January 2024. Individuals who identify as members of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are strongly encouraged
to apply. Preference will be given to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Applications are due at 11:59 p.m. ET on July 1.

Cancer
Epigenetics Training program (funded by a National Cancer Institute T32 award)
•
Offers cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research training in structural and functional aspects of epigenetics, complemented by state-of-the-art Core Technologies and
Services, unique professional development activities, and integration with established translational research programs and partnerships led by VAI investigators.
•
Prepares postdocs to become independent research leaders in the field of cancer epigenetics.
•
Eligibility: Applicants must be near completion of a Ph.D., M.D. or other appropriate terminal degree Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Individuals who identify as members of underrepresented racial and
ethnic groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Inspire
Fellowship
·
Supports postdocs who identify as members of underrepresented racial or ethnic groups as they finish preparing to be independent research leaders in academia or industry.
·
Provides $50,000 per year toward the Inspire Fellow’s salary, which starts at $57,200. Support is renewable for up to two additional years (so three years total).
·
Inspire Fellows form a cohort that meets for monthly professional development events.
·
Eligibility: Applicants must be within 12 months of completing a Ph.D., M.D. or other appropriate terminal degree. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who identify as members of an
underrepresented racial or ethnic group as defined by NIH.

Graduate Fellowship Workshops Starting Next Week

Starting next Thursday is the first session of a trio
of NSF Graduate Research Fellowship workshops. I am excited to help students get started on their applications!
Undergraduates who are entering their senior year this
fall and plan to enter a grad program in 2023 are also welcome to attend these sessions and apply for the NSF Fellowship.
The eligibility requirements for the NSF Fellowship
include:

US citizenship or permanent residency
·
Have not applied for the NSF Fellowship previously as a graduate student
·
Either senior undergrad, first year or second year grad student as of Fall 2022 - "first year" means first year in any graduate program: for disciplines that typically have masters degrees before PhD, only masters students can
apply since masters is the first grad program for those individuals; for disciplines where it is not uncommon for students to "skip" a masters and enroll straight into a PhD program, then first year or second year PhD students can apply since they do not already
have a masters degree.
