Yale University Virtual Postdoc Recruitment Event

Yale University’s Office for Postdoctoral Affairs is hosting its Virtual Postdoc Recruitment Event on February 15, 2024 from 1-4pm Eastern Time on Zoom and engages scholars interested in pursuing postdoctoral training at Yale University. Our goals are to support potential postdocs in their career exploration and identifying next steps, engage with potential postdocs from underrepresented and historically excluded groups, and increase awareness of the experience of and resources supporting Yale postdocs.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

·         Meet with representatives from Yale resources for postdocs

·         Hear from and ask questions of current Yale faculty from a variety of disciplinary fields

·         Engage with current Yale postdocs in a virtual networking hour

As part of the event, we will highlight current and future postdoctoral opportunities at Yale and how to follow up with the corresponding hiring departments and faculty.

Please find full details
on our webpage, including the registration form.

Eligibility:

We recommend participation by: current PhD, MD or MD-Phd students who are nearing completion of their degree and recent doctoral graduates (within 1-2 years of doctoral degree completion).
While there is no citizenship requirement to participate, please note that some postdoctoral positions, because of the nature of their funding sources, are limited to those holding US citizenship.

Prof. Nan Kong’s Talk at the Purdue System Thinkers Research Colloquium

The Purdue System Thinkers welcome Prof. Nan Kong for the talk titled:

Learning public health systems in infectious disease management – How can data-driven optimization help?

Please join us in WALC 3138 at 6 PM on Thursday, Nov 16; free food is provided!

Prof. Kong's Bio: Dr. Nan Kong is Professor and Interim Head of Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue. He was the former Associate Director for Health Systems at Purdue’s Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.  He graduated with B.S. in Automation from Tsinghua University in 1999 and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from University of Pittsburgh in 2006. He joined Purdue BME in 2007. His primary research is innovating data-driven optimization and analytics to address challenges in health care delivery.

Abstract: Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) defines a learning health system as a health system in which internal data and experience (e.g., semi-mechanistic model) are systematically integrated with external evidence (e.g., observational data), and the leant knowledge is put into practice. Becoming a learning system is increasingly an imperative in healthcare delivery and public health. Among the many challenges faced by learning systems is the one challenge on effective use of data, i.e., integrating newly acquired data with existing mechanistic understanding of the system to update intelligence for better controlling the system. This becomes more prevalent as we come out from the COVID-19 pandemic. How can data-driven optimization help? In this talk, we consider the context of multi-period location-specific resource allocation in infectious disease management. We propose two algorithmic approach to solve multi-period decision problems requiring online training and re-optimization.
