Upcoming Writing Programs from the Purdue OWL

Workshop Series: Maintaining Writing Productivity as Mid-Stage Doctoral Students

for third, fourth, and fifth-year doctoral students with a current writing project

The Purdue OWL is offering an in-person workshop for doctoral students in their 3rd-5th years. Academics need to produce a quantity of high caliber writing on a regular basis. The Maintaining Writing Productivity as Mid-Stage Doctoral Students workshop series combines lessons related to productivity with independent writing time that will further attendees’ productivity on specific projects they are currently writing. The workshop meets weekly for 4 weeks in February. Participants must attend all 4 weeks, as the material builds on itself from week to week. Topics of the workshop include Transitioning from Research to Writing, Maintaining Writing and Publishing Productivity, Clarity & Concision, and Peer Review. Coffee and pastries will be provided.

Spring 2025:

Dates/Times: Tuesdays in February (4th, 11th, 18th, 25th) from 8:30-10:30 am, in-person format

Anyone interested in attending this multi-week event should apply before January 27, 2025. Complete the application survey here. Attendance will be limited to 30 participants due to space constraints.

PLaCE Short Course and Workshop Registration is OPEN

The registration for PLaCE short courses is now available. The classes are non-credit and free for international students. Classes range from 6 weeks to 1 off workshops. 2025 ETS Student Scholarships and Summer Internships

The Summer Internship Program is now accepting applications. Interns gain hands-on work experience while receiving comprehensive training in a supportive environment. Internship opportunities exist in corporate, educational assessments, technology, and product innovation. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

The Student Scholarship portal opened on January 15, 2025! Each year, ETS provides scholarships to create college access for disadvantaged students and recognize their academic achievement. These scholarships directly impact undergraduate and graduate students based on the criteria they represent.

The ETS Presidential Scholarships for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Students: awarded to rising juniors or seniors enrolled in public and private HBCUs who demonstrate high academic achievement and financial need.

The Robert (Bob) Moses Scholarship: supports the educational goal of a graduate student from an underrepresented group who is pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in mathematics education or STEM discipline.

Winner Notified: June 2024

The ETS Cares Scholarships: 100% funded by donations from ETS employees for students who, despite facing considerable personal challenges, overcame and achieved academic excellence. More than $1 million in scholarships have been awarded since the program's inception in 2011.

The Lenora M. Green Scholarship: supports the educational goal of an undergraduate student who shows outstanding commitment to civic engagement along with a spirit of advocacy for serving individuals who have been systematically excluded.

OGSPS Research Communication - Competition Information

The Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars invites you to share your research story through our annual science communication competitions!

Three Minute Thesis (3MT)

This is a fast-paced competition that challenges students and scholars to effectively communicate their years of research with a short three-minute presentation using only one slide. Prizes for this competition will be given to the first place ($5,000), second place ($3,000), and the people’s choice winner ($2,000).

Say It In 6 is a competition that challenges you to tell a story about your graduate or postdoctoral research experience — in a clear, concise, and, most importantly, creative way — by using only six words and one visual aid.

Prizes for this competition will be given to the first place ($1,000), second place ($500), and the people’s choice winner ($500).

Biomedical/Life Sciences Postdoc Recruitment Opportunity for PhD Candidates

Apply to UM Postdoc Preview!

The Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is now accepting applications for its in-person Postdoc Preview recruiting event on May 8-9, 2025.

This is an application-based event where selected candidates will receive a fully-funded two-day visit to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus. Invited guests will have the opportunity to interview with prospective mentors, network with current postdocs, and learn about life in Ann Arbor. We look forward to introducing you to the extensive postdoctoral research and training opportunities at U-M, as well as the unique benefits and resources available to postdocs at Michigan.

Applicants are selected from a national pool of candidates currently enrolled in a U.S. graduate institution within the biomedical or life sciences realm. Applicants must have an anticipated graduation date by the Spring of 2026.
