Opportunities Workshop: Virtual Postdoc Recruiting Event, Register by April 4th
Georgetown is delighted to announce our first postdoc
preview event, the Georgetown Research Opportunities Workshop (GROW) on April 12th from 1-5 PM ET! GROW 2022 will be a half-day virtual event with opportunities to hear from current GU postdocs and the GU T32 programs. In addition to the research talks, participants
will greatly enjoy a professional development session with Drs. Caleb McKinney and Liz Salm based on our research project management program, the Academy for Transferable Management Skills!

The Innovative
Genomics Institute (IGI) just launched the HS
Chau Women in Enterprising Science (WIES) Program,
an exciting new program working to promote gender equity in bio-entrepreneurship. The Innovative Genomics Institute is a collaborative institute between UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco co-founded by Nobel Laureate Dr. Jennifer Doudna around the concept of
using genome engineering to solve humanity’s greatest problems in health, climate, and sustainable agriculture.
The WIES
program is open to both current UC Berkeley professors and to postdoctoral fellows working on solutions to real-world problems that are committed to supporting gender equity in biotechnology and are interested in developing their ideas commercially for the
benefit of the public. The postdoc part of the program is open to anyone that is eligible to work in the US and wants to come to UC Berkeley. If selected for the program they will be hired as a UCB postdoc (provided they are eligible to be a postdoc at Cal).
For Phase
I, four Fellows will receive up to $150k in support and lab/office space in the IGI Building on the UC Berkeley campus. After 1 year, up to two will be selected to receive up to $1 million in seed funding to launch a commercial endeavor. Applications are open

dkNET Summer of Data Student Program
Are you a student, or
know of students, who are doing research in NIDDK fields such as diabetes, kidney, digestive, obesity, metabolic, liver, endocrine, urology, nutrition or hematology diseases?
The 2022
dkNET Summer of Data Student Program provides
students an opportunity to utilize the dkNET tools and resources in a research project. Don't miss this opportunity to refine practices in rigor and reproducibility. Students will learn the basics of good data management by following the FAIR (Findable, Accessible,
Interoperable, Reusable) data principles!

6-week program, June 13 to July 22, 2022
o
Week 1: Online bootcamp (2 hrs/day)
o
Week 2-6: Weekly conference call & discussion (2 hrs/week)
o
Complete a brief end of program report and a survey
·
Students from current high school to graduate education who are currently working in a research lab or who will work in a research lab during summer 2022 may apply
·
No programming skills or bioinformatics background are required
·
$1,000 scholarship award opportunity
·
Application due April 18, 2022
Research projects should
be in the areas of the NIDDK including diabetes, obesity, nutrition, digestive, kidney, liver, urologic, endocrine, metabolic, bone, and blood diseases. The program is designed for both bench and bioinformatics scientists. Preference will be given to those
projects that would most benefit from the types of services offered by dkNET, e.g., projects that involve antibodies, genetically modified organisms, and ‘omics’ data.

March 25 at 10:45 am in Innovation Hall 105, the Biology Department will host a seminar by Dr. Jessica Dunne, a visiting industry scientist, who will discuss paths to jobs in industry.
Immediately following the seminar, at
noon (12 pm) in the Innovation Hall 1st floor lounge, we will continue the event with a panel of local industry scientists, who will provide their perspectives on obtaining and sustaining careers in industry science. Our panel members include:
