Jeffrey A. Hubbell is a pioneer in immuno-modulatory materials whose research integrates biology, chemistry, and engineering to develop novel approaches
for treating disease. His work focuses on biomaterials and engineered proteins that harness the immune system to address inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, allergies, cancer, and other disease states. With more than 400 publications and over 100 U.S. patents,
his research spans regenerative medicine, including chronic wound healing and bone repair, and immunotherapeutics, such as nanomaterial-based vaccines, targeted RNA and protein therapies, and immune tolerance strategies for autoimmune disease and allergy.
His work is both basic and translational, and he has founded or co-founded six biomedical companies based on his technologies.
Prior to joining New York University, Dr. Hubbell held faculty and leadership roles at the University of Chicago, EPFL (where he served as founding
Director of the Institute of Bioengineering and Dean of the School of Life Sciences), ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, the California Institute of Technology, and the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering
(2010), National Academy of Medicine (2019), American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2021), and National Academy of Sciences (2023).
