Transition to Industry: February 21-22, 2024

The Torrey Pines Training Consortium has developed this course for early career scientists who are considering transitioning to a career in industry.  Instructors and panelists with extensive industry experience will share their insights and provide guidance to help clarify the pathway to establishing a successful career in industry from academia.  Participants will gain an understanding of corporate culture and practice and of industry priorities and operational areas.  While this course is designed for postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and research staff may also find this training informative and may attend.

Session will take place on February 21 and 22, 2024 from 10:00 am-2:00pm (PT) via Zoom with an optional in-person networking reception (for TPTC registrants only) from 4:00 - 5:30pm (PT) on 2/22.

Overview: The Engineering Undergraduate Research Office at Purdue University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Graduate Assistant (GA) to support the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program. This is a 1/2 time GAship with a focus on mentoring undergraduate students. The position is limited to the summer of 2024, with the possibility of fall renewal based on performance and skillsets.

Responsibilities:

-Mentor undergraduate students participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program.

-Assist in the coordination and execution of program activities.

-Engage with students from diverse backgrounds and foster a supportive and inclusive research environment.

-Collaborate with program coordinators to ensure a smooth and impactful experience for participants.

Qualifications:

-Graduate student in a STEM discipline pursuing either a PhD or master's thesis program.

-Prior mentoring experience is essential.

-Passion for mentoring and commitment to student success.

-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Term: Summer 2024 (with the option for fall renewal based on performance and skillsets).
