Subject: Influencing without authority, and Management of change
Good morning, everyone
A last reminder about two in-person workshops this week. (The CCO wraps up its Fall 2022 workshops and panels for graduate students this week. PhD and Master’s students are welcome to make appointments via
BoilerConnect to work one-on-one with Career Consultants.)
Facilitated by
Bev Mentzer, both these workshops are valuable opportunities for professional development.
Graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and all staff are welcome to attend. Please consider sharing information about these workshops with your students and colleagues.
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8: Influencing with authority
TIME: 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: GRIS 102. RSVPs not required. The room seats 60; please arrive early to find a seat.
Critical skills for career success include communication, teamwork, and persuasion. But what does that look like in practice and execution? How can one lead effectively, how can one convince a team to get things done, especially if one
doesn’t have the official title/authority? Attend this in-person workshop with Bev Mentzer to learn how to influence without authority.
Demystify the techniques, expand your toolkit; avoid manipulation!
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10: Management of change
TIME: 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: KRAN G010. RSVPs not required. The room seats 49; please arrive early to find a seat.
Often when we spot a problem and suggest or work towards a solution, we watch in frustration as our attempts to make an improvement fail. Most people are resistant to change; yet change is critical and necessary. Whether or not you’ve already
experienced this, change management is going to be a useful skill to know. Attend this in-person workshop with Bev Mentzer to learn:
Why does some change succeed, and other changes fail? Learn strategies to make YOUR changes successful.
Please direct questions about these workshops to me.
Thank you for helping advertise these among your networks.
